The crossover is the most popular SUV segment, offering more cargo room, more passenger room, and a higher driver position over traditional family sedans. Two of the most popular and affordable crossovers are the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe and 2020 Kia Sorento. Owned by the same company, these SUVs are very similar in their offerings.
2020 Hyundai Santa Fe
The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is available in four model configurations: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, and Ultimate. Starting around $29,000, the Essential model is equipped with a 2.4-litre GDI Theta II 4-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an upgrade, as is a 2.0-litre turbocharged GDI engine. Included features on the lowest-priced Santa Fe model include a rearview camera, heated front seats, Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Hyundai offers a full suite of safety features but many are an additional cost at the lowest model level. The Santa Fe offers fuel economy of 10.8L/100km city and 8.0L/100km highway. The cargo capacity is great with 1,016 litres available with the second row remaining upright and 2,018 litres when the second row is folded down.
2020 Kia Sorento
The 2020 Kia Sorento is available in seven model configurations: LX, LX, LX+ V6, Blackline V6, EX, EX+, and SX. The LX model starts at $30,995 and features the standard engine, which is a 2.4-litre GDI 4-cylinder that offers 185 horsepower and a fuel economy of 11.2L/100km city and 9.0L/100km highway. Kia's DynaMax all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on all models, as is drive mode select, a rearview camera, and smartphone integration.
The higher-end models feature a 3.3-litre GDI V6 engine that provides 290 horsepower.
Taking Home a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe
The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe wins the battle over the 2020 Kia Sorento, but it was a tough one. However, the Hyundai offers superior interior design, great fuel economy, and top performance, as well as a slightly lower price tag. It is a great value for the money.
